A thank you note to our campers

Dear summer 2017 campers:

As we approach Thanksgiving, I wanted to personally thank you for choosing to spend your summer at Tel Yehudah. If you have been to TY already, you know that there is no place else like it in the world.  You are among 300 teens from around the world who have already registered to be part of our unique, diverse, energy-filled, teen-only Jewish community.  And we know that hundreds of additional Jewish teens will choose to spend the summer with us as well.

We look forward to the different opinions and ideas each of you will bring to camp this summer.  We look forward to creating a community that is passionately committed to each other, even when we disagree on important issues facing the United States, Israel, the Jewish People and the world.  In other words, we will be a model for how people with diverse backgrounds and opinions can live together, debate together, dance together, sing together, pray together, and be ONE community together.  I hope you are also excited for the community we will build together, the friends you will make and the fun we will have.

In these difficult days of division and acrimony in our society and in our community, Tel Yehudah and Young Judaea are more important than ever.  Our unique blend of community building, pluralism, Zionism, social activism and leadership training will help us all to realize our vision that “you and I WILL change the world.”

There is no need to wait till summer to be part of the Young Judaea community. We encourage you to start now by taking part in your local Young Judaea activities, attending Alternative Winter Break or National Convention or taking part in #YJSpeaksUp, a social media campaign, to encourage people to speak up against forms of injustice they see around them. Use the hashtag #YJSpeaksUp in your social media to show why you stand against injustice.

On this particular Thanksgiving, I am extra thankful to be part of such an amazing community of teens, staff and parents who are deeply committed to building our future together.  As we prepare for the 70th summer of Tel Yehudah, please let us know how we can make it the best summer ever.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
