MLK Day and Inauguration Day: Talking as a Family

posted by on Jan 13, 2017

Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration Day are around the corner. As the leadership camp for Jewish teens, we hope that this is a time of reflection for our teens and their families on the nature and challenges of leadership.

To encourage healthy conversations about the themes of these days — like new beginnings, leadership, and social justice — the Foundation for Jewish Camp partnered with One Table, The Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, Moishe House and Repair the World to create this discussion guide entitled, The Inauguration and New Beginnings (for Shabbat or any special time around the table).

We wanted to share this with you, with the hopes that you will add these texts and questions to the discussions that might be coming up over the next week and beyond. At Tel Yehudah this summer – as we do every summer – we do not just teach leadership skills BUT focus on the very nature of leadership and how it might be informed by our Jewish texts and history. (If you are not in the United States, I hope that these materials might help you think about your leaders wherever you are.)

Please click here download the discussion guide. As we travel through these historic times, we continue to believe in the importance of study, conversation and healthy debate.

Shabbat Shalom
